About Brunei Cyber Security (CySec) Conference 2024

In the rapidly evolving digital landscape, cybersecurity has become a paramount concern for organizations across the globe. As continuing to embrace digital transformation, the need for robust cybersecurity measures is more critical than ever. With this in mind, we are proud to announce the Second Cybersecurity Conference in Brunei, set to take place 18th & 19th September 2024. This conference aims to bring together local and regional companies, organizations, and cybersecurity professionals to discuss, learn, and share the latest advancements and strategies in cybersecurity.

Cyber Vigilance and Data Sovereignty: Shielding the Digital Horizon

Under the theme “Cyber Vigilance and Data Sovereignty: Shielding the Digital Horizon,” the conference will focus on the importance of maintaining vigilant cybersecurity practices and ensuring data sovereignty. The event will feature a series of talks, forums, “Catch the Flag” competitions, and exhibition booths from leading cybersecurity providers and vendors. These activities are designed to foster collaboration, innovation, and the exchange of knowledge among participants, ultimately strengthening our collective cybersecurity posture.

Aim

The primary aim of the Second Cybersecurity Conference in Brunei is to enhance the understanding and implementation of effective cybersecurity measures among local and regional companies and organizations. By addressing the critical issues of cyber vigilance and data sovereignty, the conference seeks to empower stakeholders with the knowledge and tools necessary to safeguard their digital assets and infrastructure.

Adli joined APNIC in February 2014, bringing with him extensive experience and technical leadership in cyber security. He is APNIC’s security evangelist, spearheading security outreach, engagement, and collaboration with the regional community. Adli was elected from 2015-2018 as a member of the FIRST.org Board of Directors. Prior to joining APNIC, Adli had served the Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi UFJ and the Malaysia Computer Emergency Response Team (Cybersecurity Malaysia)

Adli Bin Abd Wahid

Senior Internet Security Specialist | APNIC

Adli joined APNIC in February 2014, bringing with him extensive experience and technical leadership in cyber security. He is APNIC’s security evangelist, spearheading security outreach, engagement, and collaboration with the regional community. Adli was elected from 2015-2018 as a member of the FIRST.org Board of Directors. Prior to joining APNIC, Adli had served the Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi UFJ and the Malaysia Computer Emergency Response Team (Cybersecurity Malaysia)

Deputy Chief Operation Officer | Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ISAC)

He studied IT as a student and has 8 years of experience in cyber security operations at JPCERT/CC since 2002. He was involved in setting up the cybersecurity team at MUFG Bank, and participated in the establishment of the Financials ISAC Japan in 2014 as a mutual aid initiative for cybersecurity in the financial industry served as board member until 2024. In 2019, he founded Armoris as cybersecurity training and education company focusing real experience exercise. Also serves as a advisor to the Financial Services Agency and Advisor to the Ibaraki Prefectural Police. He published cybersecurity management book in Japanese/ English/ Vietnamese.

In this role, he oversees the Personal Data Protection Office, an interim office that manages the development of an upcoming Personal Data Protection Law for Brunei Darussalam. He also looks after international relations, promoting the country's interests in ICT through active collaboration with international partners. Nizam has over fifteen years of experience in the telecommunications and ICT industry, with an extensive background in ICT policy development, the internet ecosystem, spectrum management, and telecommunication regulations. Prior to assuming his current position, he looked after industry development that focused on promoting the use of digital technologies, enhancing digital capacity development, and fostering e-commerce adoption in Brunei Darussalam. He has also previously worked at AITI as a senior regulatory officer, dealing primarily with telecoms market competition and as a senior manager on the national Smart Nation Strategy and Program. Nizam served in various roles throughout his career in the ICT industry, including as Director of the ASEAN ICT Centre, where his role was to support the efforts of the ASEAN Secretariat (Digital Economy Division) to promote Dialogue Partners' engagement in ICT activities in the ASEAN region. He previously served as the country representative for the ICANN's Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC), having worked as the General Manager for Brunei's Internet Registry (BNNIC). Nizam holds a B.Eng from the University of Glasgow.

This includes governance over CII operators, threat monitoring of the cyberspace, incident response, and working with other government agencies to ensure coordinated efforts against cyber threats against Singapore. He helped jump start the security awareness team back in 2005 and occasionally help spread cybersecurity related awareness to schools, private institution and local events since then. His passion for sharing knowledge has led him to contribute to the cybersecurity community as a technical keynote speaker at events like cyberbattle, MYCE and Google DevFest. He also represented Brunei internationally as a guest speaker at Code Bali. His commitment to staying at the forefront of cybersecurity is evident in his continuous professional development. He regularly attends industry conferences like SANS Summit, Blackhat and Defcon to stay updated on the latest cybersecurity related trends and best practices. Academically he is a postgraduate in strategic business in IT, professionally he is a seasoned cybersecurity professional with over two decades of experience in vulnerability management, penetration testing and cybersecurity related matters. He is a certified penetration tester and holds multiple cybersecurity certifications. He helped jump start the security awareness team back in 2005 and occasionally help spread cybersecurity related awareness to schools, private institution and local events since then. His passion for sharing knowledge has led him to contribute to the cybersecurity community as a technical keynote speaker at events like cyberbattle, MYCE and Google DevFest.
